Passion beats depression

Passion is your dream fuelled with unlimited energy. You never get tired, bored or feel any sort of fatigue when you follow your passion or when you are working on things that you are passionate about.

To give it a real life example passion is what girls are to a 17 year old virgin guy, he tend to see it in whatever he does and never gets tired of it. Yesterday I was just walking past the North Sydney station and I saw a young guy (may be in his early 20’s) walking with his head down, wearing beyond blue jumper. I got an urge to stop him and ask how he was. Immediate response “I’m depressed”.

No doubt he was, how one could not be if it is written in bold and bright on your jumper “Beyond Blue.. Depression blah blah” and you are carrying it around with you everywhere like a 3G mobile signal. You can’t be happy wearing something like that; subconsciously you are carrying your blues around and on you. I’m sure he would have a pretty good reason to be depressed but could have actually avoided a little bit by not carrying the tag along.

If you are down and think about it over and over again you get even more depressed. If you feel down, make smiling your passion even if it is fake in the beginning. One thing I always find useful at such times is communication, talking to someone, just about anything except the feeling of depression. I understand at times there are days when you just want to be with yourself. But rest of the time just go out and speak to someone you will feel a lot better.

It is such a pity, these touch phones are making us more like a robot. Every Morning I see lot of robots in auto pilot mode, earphones on and socializing gone! I sometimes compare Sydney trains with Indian trains where you could hear laughs and games around everywhere. Most of the regular commuters have train buddies and they play cards, discuss sports, politics, religion and of course everyone’s favourite topic Bollywood. They do a lot of interaction than sitting around like robots with earphone on and socializing gone.

Every now and then I see these articles in newspaper that depression is killing Australia, well sure it will if things keep going like this. It will not only kill but make us deaf as well. I have a friend who celebrates 1 day in every month without mobile and computers. Just to be in the space called “you”. How much music can you listen in the train?? After initial 10 mins it is all garbage to your head, mind is somewhere else and all you are left with is noise pollution for the poor subconscious.

Sitting with eyes shut for 5 mins opens up a lot of new things; for the people unknown to it is called “meditation”. But not with your touch phones! Technology is to help us do things faster and easier but not to complicate our lives. Choose wisely how you want to use it. May be you could use the time saved to follow your passion, do something which you really love even if it is listening to music. Listen sing and dance your butt off with passion.

There are so many ways to do it, I would not talk about them in this article but click here to read what my friend Niro has to say about this.

Next time before you put those earphones on, just think you may use that time to giggle and laugh with someone that could make their day!
